Chobe by Land

We expected we would see wildlife on this trip, but we had no idea that we would see so many animals.  Hundreds of elephants roamed through the woods to the water, giraffe necks appeared up among tree tops, and herds of zebras were right next to our land vehicle swishing their tails to keep the flies away. An angry mother elephant blocked our vehicle until her calf safely crossed the sand road.  And a large male lion with a zig-zag scar rested under a tree just a few yards from us.  Our guide, Dan, made sure we stayed inside the vehicle!

Dan was an excellent guide, and would regularly slow down to observe fresh lion tracks.  He knows so much about the habits of the animals, and always knew how to get us to good photo opportunities. We had a white-knuckle ride one evening as we raced on sand roads in the fading daylight to exit the park by the legal deadline of 6pm.  We had a few near-collisions with elephants as they emerged in the road right in front of us.  But we made it to the exit at 6pm on the nose.  Our Pangolin host called our excursion a “Ferrari Safari”, and it was more exciting than any roller coaster we have been on!
