Manayunk

One of our favorite biking destinations, this Philadelphia community nestled along the banks of the Schuylkill River is full of urban charm. Named a National Historic District in 1983 and a Classic Town by The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission in 2007, downtown Main Street is lined with renovated Victorian storefronts and mill buildings giving you an urban experience with small town appeal.
The Schuylkill River bike path runs on the former Manayunk Canal Tow Path, with plenty of access points to bike into town for an ice cream or a brew.

“Manayunk” is derived from a Native American word, meaning “where we to go drink,” and it refers to the neighborhood’s location next to the Schuylkill River. Though the river helped shape Manayunk’s identity, so do the hills. The famed “Manayunk Wall” is part of the route of the Philadelphia International Cycling Championship’s annual bike race, and people line up to cheer on the cyclists as they struggle up this grueling incline.
