Cape Breton Island

It was a long drive to Cape Breton Island and camping at Cheticamp.  We picked an open site in the campground as there was a lot of humidity and many pesky mosquitoes. While setting up camp, a squirrel jumped into the back of our Rav-4.  Jim went to shoo it out and it darted somewhere up front of the car.  After much door opening and closing, Jim announced that he ‘thought” it was gone……

We hiked the  spectacular Skyline Trail. It winds through a beautiful evergreen forest filled with green and golden ferns.  It culminates at the top of ocean cliffs with a series of wooden boardwalks and platforms that look over mountains and the ocean with fantastic views.

We drove the famous Cabot Trail with many beautiful overlooks.  Made a few stops along the way to photograph a spectacular waterfall and to hike a few miles along the Middle Head peninsula.  We usually try to avoid gift shops, but tried to find one to get a Cape Breton t-shirt for our son, Kenneth Breton Wilson.  Alas, hardly any gift shops and no t-shirts!

Next adventure, mud-sliding in Shubenacadie!
