Train to Denali

The McKinley Explorer is a beautiful double-decker train that took us from Anchorage to Denali. Huge windows provide an excellent view of wildlife and Alaska scenery. We had beautiful views of Mt. Denali, which is only visible about 20% of the time, due to frequent cloud cover. We spotted a moose, and saw a bald eagle in its nest.  A delicious lunch is served in the downstairs dining car, then back up top to enjoy the ride and the spectacular scenery.  We propelled over Hurricane Gulch on a bridge 296 feet above the creek below.  The guide on the train alerted us to a passing train going in the opposite direction, and everyone on both trains gave a “moose wave” to passengers on the passing train.
